Flood Destroys Properties worth Millions of Naira in Makurdi, Residents Demand Compensation

By Reporter 3

There was a heavy downpour in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital on Friday, June 21, 2024, which resulted in severe flooding with Residents of High Level in the Capital being mostly affected.

DAILY POST gathered that the construction of an underpass in High Level is the major cause of the severe flooding that affected the area. It was reported that businesses and sources of livelihood for people living in the High-Level area were seriously affected by the flooding, ascribed to the negligence of Bauhaus Global Investment, Nig. Ltd., the company handling the construction of the High-Level Underpass in Makurdi.

Victims of the flooding stated that the construction company obstructed all water channels and drainages, thereby forcing water to enter homes and business premises in the area. Several buildings close to the construction site, especially that of Elder Thomas Anyaregh located at No.7 High Level Rd, Makurdi, were affected.

It was further gathered that goods worth millions of naira were destroyed due to the heavy downpour, which could not find its way as a result of the blockage of the drainage systems.

The owner of the property, Mr. Anyaregh while speaking to newsmen explained that, he is not opposed to the construction of the high-level Underpass by the State Government but strongly opposes the incompetence of the construction company, which has always refused to create adequate water channels despite repeated appeals.
