Parkinson’s Doctor made White House Visits Eight Times, Logs Show

By Reporter 3

Official visitors’ logs at the White House have indicated that an expert on Parkinson’s disease from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center visited the White House at least not less than eight times in eight months from last summer through this spring, which involved having a meeting with President Biden’s doctor.

White House released the logs upon request by The New York, the log is a document visit from July 2023 through March 2024. It was vague whether Dr. Cannard was at the White House to confer especially about the President or whether he was there as part of meetings which have nothing to do with the White House medical team. On his LinkedIn page, Dr. Cannard is described as having “supported the White House Medical Unit” for more than 12 years, which would include during the administrations of Presidents Donald J. Trump and Barack Obama.

As at the time of filling this report, Dr. Cannard did not reply to requests for comment, neither did the White House remark precisely on the purpose of his visits. “A wide variety of specialists from the Walter Reed system visit the White House complex to treat the thousands of military personnel who work on the grounds,” Andrew Bates, a White House spokesman, said in a statement.

Mr. Bates stated that the President “has been seen by a neurologist once a year” as part of his annual physical checkup and “that examination has found no sign of Parkinson’s and he is not being treated for it.” He refused to provide dates of any sessions with Mr. Biden and any of his specialists but said “There have been no neurologist visits besides the one for his physical per year, three in total.”

Recently, Dr. Cannard met with a White House doctor, the meeting took place just a month before Mr. Biden underwent his most recent annual physical checkup at Walter Reed on Feb. 28. In a six-page letter released after that checkup, Dr. O’Connor said the President’s medical team had conducted “an extremely detailed neurologic exam” that had yielded “no findings which would be consistent with” Parkinson’s, stroke or other central neurological disorders. Dr. O’Connor was silent on whether or not the examination included common tests for assessing cognitive decline or detecting signs of dementia that are often recommended for older adults.

The White House stated recently that that was no point in conducting further examination since February. Inquiries about Mr. Biden’s health, and particularly about Parkinson’s, have increased since his disastrous debate performance against Mr. Trump on June 27, 2024. Mr. Biden disclosed in an interview recently that he had an equal neurological exam every day because of the pressure of presidential duties.

Neurologists who have not personally examined Mr. Biden said they noticed signs in his public appearances that were constant with Parkinson’s or a related disease, such as hypophonic speech, forward flexed posture, a shuffling gait, masked face, and irregular speech pattern. However, they stressed that a specific diagnosis could not be given without firsthand examination. Andrew Bates, a White House spokesman, formerly told The Times that Dr. O’Connor had found no reason to re-evaluate Mr. Biden for Parkinson’s disease since his physical in February. Mr. Bates also said the president had shown no signs of Parkinson’s and had never taken Levodopa or other drugs for that condition.
