FCCPC Fines Meta $220 Million for Data Privacy Violations

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission ( FCCPC) on Friday, 19 July 2024, fined Meta platforms $220 million for violating data privacy regulations.

In a statement that PUNCH was able to get, the FCCPC said that Meta had violated local consumer and data protection laws with its data-sharing tactics on Facebook and WhatsApp.

The commission concluded that Meta had used its market dominance, shared data without permission, and denied Nigerian users control over their data.
