Hunger Protest Commences in Niger State

By Reporter 2

Some young people have defied Government requests and taken to the streets of Niger State to express their disapproval of Nigeria’s dire economic conditions.

According to information obtained by newsmen, the demonstrators took to the streets on Monday, 29 July 2024 and began chanting songs critical of the government. They carried signs, among other things that read, “Enough is Enough,” “Stop Anti-Masses Policies,” “We Are Not Slaves In Our Country,” “Hardship Is Unbearable,” and “Fuel Subsidy Must Be Back.”

Recall that in an attempt to quell the protest, Governor Mohammed Bago enticed Niger State’s citizens with welfare packages last week. To lessen the current economic suffering, he had ordered the immediate release of 50,000 metric tonnes of different grains to be sold at discounted rates and announced a N20,000 wage allowance for State and Local Government public personnel.
