FG Mandates Government Agencies to Patronize Defence Industry Corporation
By Reporter 2
According to the Federal Government, all government organizations and agencies must now purchase military hardware from the Defence Industry Corporation (DICON), Kaduna’s Military Industrial Complex.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, 12 August 2024, before the Defence Industry Corporation’s (DICON) 60th anniversary, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Ibrahim Kana stated that government agencies will only be permitted to purchase hardware from outside DICON if the desired hardware is not available there.
Kana clarified that government agencies are required by the recently enacted DICON Act, which was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, to look inside for the acquisition of military hardware to support Nigeria’s national development and security.
He claimed that such support can increase foreign exchange profits by enabling the country to produce defence equipment locally, as well as reduce capital flight to other countries and create jobs for talented Nigerians.
