Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta (MAPOLY) Rector, Adeoye Odedeji, said that students of the institution have started receiving credit alerts from the banks for the students loan they applied for.
This was revealed by Odedeji on Friday, 6 September 2024, in Abeokuta during the inauguration of the recently elected Students Union Government (SUG) members.
The Rector clarified that the University obtained the students loan from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) on behalf of the students to pay their tuition.
He voiced concern over the fact that most students had not benefited from the federal government’s student loan program. Odedeji urged students to utilize the program, stating that its purpose was to relieve them of the burden of frantically searching for money to settle their school fees.
We found that, on our end, we submitted over 11,000 depth data to NELFUND while NELFUND waited for students to register.
“Only 81 pupils from the school registered and applied; 26 of those students were determined to be eligible after reviewing the 81 students.
“The majority of the pupils did not submit a loan application. In my opinion, they ought to apply for this loan, while the opportunity is still available.
“This morning, I received notifications regarding the payment of school fees for the 26 students who met the eligibility requirements. That only indicates that the students tuition for the next term has been paid.
“NELFUND will eventually again credit their bank accounts with maintenance allowance, which will not come to the school,” he declared.
About the institution’s general development, Odedeji guaranteed that the administration and students would remain partners.
