A petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura local government area, Jigawa State, on Tuesday, 15 October 2024, resulted in the confirmation of no fewer than ninety-nine deaths.

During an interview with NAN on Wednesday, 16 October 2024, Mr. Shi’isu Adam, the Jigawa Police Spokesperson, verified this. Additionally, he mentioned that fifty more people had been admitted to the hospital owing to varying degrees of explosion-related injuries.

The tanker driver lost control close to Khadija University on Tuesday, at around 11:30 p.m. in Majia Town, Taura local government district, Jigawa, and exploded.

Adam stated, “The driver was traveling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe when the accident occurred. We are concerned that people continue to engage in such acts despite police warnings to stay away from scenes of accidents involving fuel tankers,” the speaker stated.

“The mass casualty was caused by people congregating around the accident scene.” A mass burial for the fatalities would take place around nine a.m. on Wednesday, the spokesperson announced. He said that medical care was being given to the injured at the Ringim General hospital.
