Reps Spokesman Breaks Down in Tears over Monarchs Death

By Reporter 2

Akin Rotimi, a legislator from Ekiti North 1 (Ikole / Oye) Federal Constituency and the House of Representatives spokesman, sobbed on the House floor in response to the deaths of two Traditional Rulers in Ekiti State.

Rotimi brought up the horrific shooting that resulted in the deaths of two monarchs to the House’s attention.

Recall that on Monday, 29th January 2024, while coming from a meeting in Irele-Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsola, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, and Oba Olatunji Olusola, the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, were both slain.

However, on Tuesday, 30th January 2024, Rotimi brought up a motion of critical national importance during the House’s reconvening of plenary after a month-long recess.

The legislator stated that there has been a rise in criminal activity in the Ekiti North 1 (Ikole / Oye) Federal Constituency lately, which has led to property and human casualties.

In addition to the sad fact that Ekiti Federal Highways are among the worst in the nation, he pointed out that the constituency faces unique security difficulties as a result of the characteristics of our forests and geography.

In order to improve security and prevent another attack, the House then decided to request that the Chief of Army Staff should redeploy the Military to the outpost along the Oke-Ako area of Ekiti.

Additionally, the House decided to order the Inspector General of Police, the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp, and other security agencies to send additional personnel to Ekiti North 1 and make sure that the perpetrators of those heinous crimes are apprehended and prosecuted.

Likewise, in the wake of the attacks that claimed the lives of more than fifty people in the state’s Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, the House recommended the Chief of Defence Staff to form civilian combined forces in Plateau State.

This came when Ishaya Lalu, a member representing the Bokkos Federal Constituency in Plateau State, presented a motion of urgent national importance and it was adopted.

After both motions were resolved, the House called for a minute silence and instructed its committees on defense and legislative compliance to ensure everything was done as planned.

In light of this, the House postponed its plenary till Tuesday 6th February 2024 of next week.
