Kogi Assembly Requests Removal of Yahaya Bello From Wanted List

The Kogi State House of Assembly has requested that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) remove the “wanted” designation, and associated information placed on Yahaya Bello, the past Governor of the State. This was included in the House’s resolutions during Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 plenary session.

This occurred after Jibrin Abu, a member of the House who represents the Ajaokuta State Constituency, raised an urgent issue of public significance on the chamber’s floor.

The lawmaker claimed that the Anti-graft Agency has been witch-hunting former Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello in his motion, which was headlined, “A call to end all false, frivolous, fictitious, and far from the truth smear campaign.”

“Kogi State is not rich enough, according to allocation standards, that the absence of N80.4b would not rock the State to its core. The EFCC’s assertion has to be condemned and seen as absurd. People who believed the lies, including innocent Nigerians and Kogi State residents, ought to voluntarily stop supporting them,” he said. Former Deputy Speaker of the House Enema Paul, on his part, asked the Anti-graft Agency to respect the law.

In his decision, the Speaker of the House, Aliyu Yusufin, cautioned the Anti-graft Agency against acting beyond the national law. “The EFCC should carry out its duties within the bounds of the law, not in a Gestapo-like manner. This House is not against their doing so. We all own this country, so we have to respect the law and obey it,” he said.
